I love winter. I love the snow, I love the rosy cheeks and pink noses on people when they come in from outside, I love the silence after a deep snowfall. So when I showed up to, basically, Narnia on this session, well let's just say I probably embarrassed myself. And the perfect snowy backdrop was nothing on how giddy and in love these two were. It was such a sweet, special session and I felt so lucky to capture this romantic walk through the falling snow with these two lovebirds.
Well, you're five years old today! I'm not sure why but that number feels so momentous to me. It's been half a decade since I first held you in my arms, carefully taking in every inch of your little face, kissing that ridiculously adorable nose. I remember that day like it was yesterday, partly because of your constant request for my retelling it. You love to hear stories about your past - your birth story, tales of your time in Paris, vacations to the beach, what you liked to eat and why. I can't blame you. You've had an interesting life.
When I was choosing my favorite photos of your last five years (an impossible task), I realized that each one was taken somewhere completely different from the last: Mississippi, Positano, Rhode Island, Germany, and Montana. It shows off a love of adventure that is so alive inside of your soul Harry. You thrive on new, even if you do love the familiar. Vacations are a welcome adventure to you and we have never had to slow our adventures down for you. You love to play on the beaches of far off places, enjoy the local croissant, learn a few new words in a foreign tongue, play in the snow of the mountainous west... You haven't met a trip you haven't loved.
You're inquisitive by nature, constantly asking me questions until I'm exhausted. I hope I am able to answer them for you buddy. I do my best. I also hope to teach you to discover on your own. You're entering a very exciting time in your life when you'll begin to read and learn on your own. Please take me along with you; I love to have a front row seat to the inner workings of your brain.
To this day, you remain the sweetest boy I've ever met. Your heart is enormous and you wear it on your sleeve. The compassion you show for others is intense. I hope you keep that heart safe, but never stop caring the way you do. It's one of your absolute best qualities. Being overly empathetic may be hard sometimes, but it will lead you to good. To DO good.
I have no doubt in my mind that you will do good, Harry Recor. Watching you grow and expand and love and cherish this world and this life and this family you've been put into the last five years have left me with no doubt. I cannot wait to see what comes next,
I love you more than I ever dreamed I could.
