When I started as a photographer, there was something inside of me that I couldn't shake. I wanted to capture moments, memories, lives. I didn't simply want to get the pretty picture, I wanted to freeze the moment. You see, as a mother, I know how fast those moments slip away. One day it's your normal, and the next you don't remember it. Time is so fleeting and there is nothing that makes that more obvious than children.
Capturing mothers in their natural state feels so important to me. Too often we are behind the camera, behind the scenes. Yet, we spend our lives raising our children, being their comfort, being there. We are who they run to when they are hurt, who they laugh with when they discover something new, who they cling to when they need someone. I want to capture that.
Kirsten and her two, sweet babies were such an inspiration to me. Watching her play with them, read to them, teach them and mold them was inspiring. Getting a brief peek into their natural daily rhythm left me so proud of what I do. Proud to be able to capture this strong mama with her young children, because as we know, babies don't keep. I leave you with a quote from Kirsten about motherhood that I can't stop thinking about.
I want to choose well in this season. I’m still working out what that means on a daily basis, always imperfectly! But I hope that our children will remember a mom who valued presence over perfection.
