What do you do when you have three of the most beautiful, sweet, hilarious, goofy little girls? You have one more, of course! This family is full of adorable girls and I loved spending a whole morning capturing the giggles. These at-home, lifestyle sessions are my absolute favorite as you really, really get to see the family as they are now (exactly what they'll want to remember in 20 years!).
It's been far too long, but I have reason. In May we packed up all our belongings and started the incredible journey "home." It was tough for many reasons, first of which, we were leaving "home" in anticipation of at least five weeks of homelessness and at least two months of not having much. We're still in the stage of "not having much" as we await our household goods shipment, but we are no longer homeless.
It's a strange, yet oddly familiar house we ended up in, and while we've been trying to settle into our lives here, eating at a folding table, watching movies on my computer while sitting on the floor, sleeping on air mattresses and in pack and plays, it's been tough. We've been quite homesick for our sweet little German home. But luckily, we filmed a little video to remember that part of our lives just before we moved. And I'm here to share it today. This post is a bit more personal than the average post on here, but maybe it'll give you a glimpse into who I am and what I love.
I had the distinct pleasure of hanging out with these two beautiful ladies just before they became three beautiful ladies right before Christmas. We played and baked cookies (delicious) as mother and daughter enjoyed one of their last quiet days as a twosome before Mama welcomed a second little girl to the family. I can't get over how cute these two are!
You're four years old today. I don't know how that happened quite so fast, but it did, and we're already here. Four years have gone by in a blur of sweetness. You were born with the biggest heart and every year it continues to grow. The empathy you have for this world is unreal; I hope to learn from you. Sometimes it breaks my heart watching you care so hard for other people. I know you will face hard times because of your huge heart, but I also know you will do so much good.
You've become quite a rascal. Always trying to be funny, to make us laugh, to tell jokes. Testing limits and boundaries and seeing just how much you can get away with. It drives me crazy right now, but I love that about you. One day you will push the limits and you will make a difference because of that. Keep questioning everything. I know that's your natural inclination.
You've quite blossomed into the role of "big brother." Oscar looks up to you like you are his hero. Always make him proud, buddy. I know you will take care of him, love him, and be such a fabulous example for him. Remember, your Papa and I know just how tough it is to be the first born, blazing the trails. It's a hard responsibility to have, but you're doing great.
This year was so fun. You were so excited for your birthday, it was palpable. We couldn't help but feed off your energy. Every day you would rip another paper chain off your door and count the days left. You woke up ready to eat your special cereal and open your presents. You told us the you thought the balloons we snuck into your room while you were sleeping were jellyfish and you didn't want to get stung. You wore your homemade pointy hat to school and brought rocket and tractor cookies. You can't wait until your pirate birthday party this weekend.
Four is just the beginning, I know, but I already feel so lucky to have had you this long. It has been four of the most exhausting, exhilarating, amusing, confusing, chock-full of love years of my life and I can't wait to see what happens next.
I love you.
I've said it before, but if I could spend my days capturing brand new babies with their brand new parents in their warm new homes, I would be a very happy girl. This session is double special for me because the family are dear friends of ours. Seeing my friends step into the roles of mom and dad to this sweet little girl has been so fun for me!
There are days that everything comes together right... perfect moody weather, a beautiful and happy family, and so many sweet smiles. This was one of those days. This family was amazing–the kind of clients you walk away from wishing you were friends. They were all so sweet and fun and I could gush all day, but I'll let the photos do the talking. You're going to love them.
If I could spend every day quietly capturing brand new parents do their brand new parenting thing with their teeny tiny baby, I would be a happy girl. Nothing is more special to me than to be invited into someone's home to capture these early days. Because I have two babies of my own, I know just how hazy those first few weeks are, so I do everything I can to capture the true love and adoration between each member of the new family. These are my favorite sessions.
That picture above? One of my favorite Father-Daughter pictures I've taken. It was totally candid–they didn't even realize the camera was on them, which is what I love. It's a real moment between these two, that probably happens every day. That is my hope with every session I do... to capture the day to day stuff you might not even notice right now. But when you pull this picture out in 5, 10, 50 years, it'll take you right back to this season of life.
I had the absolute honor of capturing this sweet family (who just so happen to be some of our best friends) just before they went from three to four. Since this day, they have welcomed a sweet little girl and big brother is smitten, just as much as everyone else is. We played at the park on this hot, hot day as we excitedly anticipated their new arrival.
When Nathan wanted to pop the question to his long-time girlfriend Anastasia, he knew Paris was the only option. The city was at the very top of Anastasia's must-see list and she had been talking about going there her whole life. After a week of museum hopping and sightseeing, Nathan sent Anastasia on a hunt for clues throughout the city. At the end of it all she found him, with a single rose and the most beautiful engagement ring I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to come along and photograph the whole day, and let me tell you it was complete magic.
There are no words to describe how beautiful Positano is. The glittery gem of the Amalfi Coast, it's full of wonderful people, stunning colors, the best food you'll ever eat, and houses that seem to cling to the side of the cliffs. Do as we did and grab a bag of grapes on your walk down to the beach and lay there watching the stunning turquoise water all day long.
I have about two years of sessions that I may or may not get up on the blog, but when I thought about this session, there was just no way I couldn't share it. When I pulled up to this sweet couples house and saw the concern on their faces over the weather, I assured them it was going to be perfect. I knew the fog was going to be magical, but I had no idea just how perfect this session was going to be. The love and warmth these two shared was immeasurable. I instantly knew that was a lucky little boy in there.
Though I have been lucky enough to capture the big moments, the little moments, and every loving moment in between for a few years now, today marks the launch of www.malloryrecor.com! A little about myself... I'm a portrait, lifestyle, and travel photographer based in Kaiserslautern Germany. I got my start in weddings at Style Me Pretty where I worked as an editor for three years, and will be forever grateful for everything I learned from that job (A LOT), the hardworking people I worked alongside, and the amazing vendors I worked with. A move to Germany brought about a new, exciting path, and I started shooting family and lifestyle sessions. I love what I do.
My boys are my life - I have two of the cutest, most rambunctious sons and a husband who is the most supportive partner. When I'm not spending my time cuddling with the three of them (or my cat) you can find me running, Pinning the prettiest interiors, enjoying any and every beach, or traveling to all the corners of this world I can get to.
I'm currently booking sessions for Fall 2016 in and near Germany. Get in touch if you'd like to chat!
